In 1964, AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH began developing and producing solar cells for space applications in Heilbronn, Germany as part of Telefunken GmbH.
The first satellite - called AZUR and powered by cells produced in the Heilbronn plant - was launched in 1969. Since then more than 340 satellites have been equipped with AZUR SPACE solar cells - without any failure.
AZUR SPACE Solar Power GmbH produces in an integral Cell FAB for Si and GaAs Cells on a 4,500 m² production area with a cell capacity equivalent to 350 KW per year.
